However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky units of the competitors. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, picking up 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or create an automatic hoover spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
