How to Replace an audi key programmer G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference key for audi comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, in order to activate the spark and injectors.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a significant reduction in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was dry. 3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them: simply switch your DMM into resistance mode and measure the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump on the connector's edge facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU
