A cyst is a small fluid-filled sac under the skin. If it’s just drained and not completely removed, chances are high it will regrow. This can only be stopped with the surgical excision of the complete sac usually done with local anaesthetic safely. A cyst removal doctor does a tiny incision and drains the cyst from below your area of skin. The area is sutured afterward with minimal scarring using dissolving or non-dissolvable stitches. Squeezing a cyst is not going to fix the problem, what you need to do is remove the whole sac in order for it not to come back. Even if you drain it, it may recur. It takes a certified dermatologist to do this with minimal damage, plus it ensures the cyst does not grow back again.
There may be some tenderness or discomfort once the local anaesthesia begins to wear off. This is totally natural and in most cases the daily pain can be treated with over-the-counter medications again; exactly as your doc suggests.

Important things to do prior your procedure:
- You can put ice on and off to the area over dressing as ice will help with swelling.
- Ibuprofen (200 mg or 400 mg) every six hours as needed for pain.
- You will experience a little bit of swelling and it may have lumps around the area where they made an incision.
- If you have a compression dressing, leave it on overnight as this will help blood to not pool in your wound.
- You may shower and rinse hair gently the following day. So no major sports for the next 2 days. Take it easy with super vigorous activities.
- You may also continue with your regular medications and diet.
Most of the time, there is no need to schedule a follow-up visit. The incision is closed with an absorbable suture that will dissolve on its own over a period of 4 to 6 weeks.
